Yet fame came to him, much to his own surprise, when his early recordings (from 1928!) were discovered by a new generation of blues fans in the 1960s. In his later life Mississippi John Hurt was a huge hit at festivals, with his unforgettable storytelling and humble mastery of blues guitar.
