The Obscenity Prayer
by Rodney Crowell
, , , ,

RamblinMan says: The SXSW website is a great source of free mp3 downloads for a wide variety of artists. One that I've been particularly enjoying over the last few days is this track from Rodney Crowell. I will admit not knowing anything about Rodney before hearing this - aware of the name as a well-respected veteren (first album 1978), but never knowingly aware of any of his music. Anyway, I saw this track on the sxsw site, and thought there was no harm in giving it a go. Well, am I glad I did! Taken from his most recent album, The Outsider, this is a kick-ass rocker with an intelligently bitter tongue-in-cheek (at least, I think it is!) lyric. It's nothing ground-breaking, just a well-constructed song, from a wise-head, that's not afraid to let rip. More please!

A psychedelic barnstormer of a song, this London-based 6-piece reminds me of early-80s Bunnymen, and certainly the more wigged-out moments of Stone Roses. This is...  more »
