Every Single Line Means Something
by Marnie Stern
, , , guitar heroine

He_Is_Me says: Marnie Stern is as singular an artist as our times can produce. First she is a guitar heroine, and I bet she could axe down many of her male counterparts. She's also clearly indebted to great alternative chanteuses (she quotes Sleater-Kinney as the basis of her musical education, but there are bits of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon or Pixies' Kim Deal in her delivery and songwriting). She is assisted on this track and album by Hella's Zach Hill on (frantic but awesomely precise) drums. A new voice to be reckoned with in the years to come.
